Dr. Patrick Ling
Dr. Patrick Ling is the founder of Avant Sports Medicine. He is a pioneer in musculoskeletal ultrasound and the first sports medicine physician in Canada to be credentialled as a musculoskeletal sonographer. He offers both diagnostic MSK US and US guided interventional procedures for non- operative musculoskeletal conditions.
After a decade serving as the Emergency Medicine Residency Director, he returned to study public health at the College of Medicine. Dr. Ling completed a Masters degree in Public Health at the University of Saskatchewan in 2011. He realized that many of the chronic diseases such as hypertension, coronary artery disease and diabetes that he had managed in the emergency department could be prevented. Many of these conditions could have been prevented with 'upstream' measures such as attention to diet and physical activity.
In 2013, Dr. Ling returned to his first love and started a sports and exercise medicine practice with hopes of helping people maintain their activity; believing that physical activity can treat and prevent most many chronic illness.
He recently launched the Exercise is Medicine campaign at the University of Saskatchewan - bringing awareness of the health benefits of exercise and partnering with the college of kinesiology to provide timely exercise counseling and support to those who may benefit from an exercise prescription.
